Each item on the menu is 100% free of gluten so those who are gluten intolerant can eat out without fear of contamination. Our resident pastry chef makes bread, pastries, cakes and pizza bases in house to maintain their gluten free integrity. Some Maitland cafés boast gluten free items but you won’t find another Hunter Valley café that is 100% gluten free. By focusing on clean ingredients, farm to table dishes and personalised customer service, we hope to serve the Maitland community with premium quality meals at reasonable prices. About Us
We are the only café in East Maitland, in fact the only restaurant in the Hunter Valley that has a 100% gluten free menu. Bread and Water Café Maitland was created by a husband and wife in order to provide delicious, affordable, gluten free food to Newcastle and Maitland residents. They proudly serve Hunter Valley produce along with locally roasted premium Darks Coffee, Within Radius teas and Tranquil Vale wines. 100% Gluten Free Menu
It’s not necessary to be on a coeliac diet to enjoy Bread and Water Café's gluten free food. Our reviews speak for themselves - guests have stated that their gluten tolerant friends couldn’t tell the difference. Despite not using wheat flour, our crusts are still flaky, cakes still moist and breads still fluffy. Enjoy gluten free sweet or savoury menu items so that you can satisfy your desire to indulge without worry. Breakfast and Lunch
At Bread and Water Café Maitland we make breakfast or lunch easy. To drink, you can select from barista made Darks Coffee, Within Radius tea, Pillage Farm Kombucha, freshly squeezed juice or smoothies and milkshakes. For breakfast, you might struggle to decide between eggs or pancakes or something lighter like house made muesli. When it comes to lunch you will be spoilt for choice with beef pies, fish and chips, burgers, quiche or soup. There is always a daily specials board to consider as well. Most importantly, all the meals are delicious, gluten free and reasonably priced.

Dinner
Bread and Water Café Maitland has something for everyone. Vegans and vegetarians are welcome to try our Roasted Red Capsicum & Mushroom Risotto. Carnivores may indulge in a generous slice of beef lasagne. The lasagne is freshly made in-house daily. Take some home and enjoy for lunch the next day. The grilled salmon is caught wild and is served with spicy Bok Choy and pickled vegetables. The kangaroo fillet salad takes us back to our roots. We mix the old with the new and fuse it with traditional recipes.
Tranquil Vale Wines
Bread and Water Café is proud to serve locally sourced award winning Hunter Valley wines from Tranquil Vale. For those who enjoy wine with their lunch or dinner there is a selection to choose from. You are sure to find something to suit the occasion whether you are after a Chardonnay, Shiraz, Semillon or Shiraz Cabernet. If you’re not a wine connoisseur the Bread and Water team will be happy to advise you on the perfect wine to complement your meal. All the Tranquil Vale wines were carefully selected to pair well with our gluten free menu.

Call Us Today
Bread and Water Café is open 7 days a week. Our food is so delicious that your family won’t be able to detect that it is 100% gluten free. Breakfast is available daily from 8:30am. Lunch is served everyday from 11:30am to 2:30pm. We are conveniently located next door to Maitland Gaol.
Dinner is served on Fridays between the hours of 6:30pm to 9:30pm. You are welcome to call ahead for takeaway.
