All the cakes and pastries served at Bread and Water Café Maitland are gluten free.  Believe the hype!  Our sweets are baked fluffy and moist.  Not hard like hockey pucks.  Take a bite into a little or a large slice of heaven.  A skilled pastry chef can transform a gluten free pie into a warm bastion of savoury – sweet goodness.  Request a table for one or two.  There’s no shame in satisfying your sweet tooth before heading home.  Enjoy a mini-date with 2 red velvet cup cakes and a little bubbly.  Our pastry menu changes daily to give you the best there is in gluten free desserts.

Sweet Breads

You might want something a little sweet but don’t want to go overboard.  Commit to one of our delectable sweet breads.  Let our banana nut bread melt in your mouth.  The saccharine scent of fresh banana along with the slight nutty texture will envelop your senses.  It’s just enough to leave you longing for more.  Tempt your taste buds with our famous spicy pumpkin bread.  Treat your palette to a moist, soft, sweet bread laced with organic vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon.  Be transported back to your granny’s warm, airy kitchen with artisanal sweet breads that ignite the soul.  Breads are baked fresh daily.

Salt, sugar, chocolate and vanilla.  That’s all you need to know.  When we say, ‘éclair’, we mean business – café business that is.  We love to see a smile creep across our customer’s faces.  When your eyes close, head tilts back and a deep pleasurable mmmm-mmmm escapes from your mouth, we know that we’ve done our job.  Bread and Water Café Maitland is on a mission to make the world a little bit better with each bite.  All ingredients are sourced locally or made in house.  We believe that raw is better.  Unrefined sugar and salts sends happy signals to the brain that keep you coming back for more.

Brownies and Cakes

Cakes and Pastries so good you’ll wanna slap yo’ momma!  Who ever said gluten free cakes were dry, crusty and flavourless has never been to Water Café’ Maitland.  Our cakes are spiced just right with organic vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon.  The icing is procured from Australian sugar cane and whipped into chocolate, caramel and lemony confections.  We specialize in light, airy, moist cakes that conjure delicious childhood memories.  Remember coming home from school and being treated to the chocolaty goodness of a crispy on the outside but moist on the inside brownie?  That’s wheat we have in store for you.

Pies and Cookie Sandwiches

Delectable, warm pies with fresh fruit are available to anyone with a sweet tooth.  Indulge in cherry, blueberry, peach and apple crisp pies.  Enjoy the crumbly texture of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and brown sugar with real butter baked on top.  Cookie flavours vary from week to week.  Experience, blonde sugar cookies, double chocolate chip, ginger, white chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate chip goodness.  If you care to part with your mom’s famous cookie recipe, share it with our pastry chef.  Don’t be surprised if you see it on the menu next week.  If you love the taste but don’t have the time, keep in mind that we cater.
