The wonderful thing about starters is that they can be eaten as a light dinner with wine or shared in multiples like tapas.  It’s a great way to try different items on the menu without completely committing.  Every starter at Bread and Water Café Maitland can be upgraded to a full portion meal.  Enjoy bruschetta on a house baked baguette for $12.  Savoury, French onion soup is served with seasoned croutons for $10.  Relish 3 tender prawn skewers with lemongrass and lime spices for $16.  Get oysters in the raw or Kilpatrick style.  Prices range from $6 to $30.  You cannot leave without trying our famous, stuffed, goat cheese, zucchini flowers.  They are battered with tempura and deep fried for a delicious treat.

Crispy Skinned Chicken Breast $29

Free range chicken is lightly seasoned and marinated overnight.  It is made to order and fried in extra virgin olive oil.  Sage and garlic is added to the pan for a delightful flavour.  The result is a crispy skin full of flavour.  The chicken emerges from the cast iron skillet tender and juicy.  You will enjoy the texture, taste and lightness as the aroma politely invades your mouth.  While this dish is available year round, seasonal vegetables vary.  Bread and Water Café Maitland provides farm to table cuisine.  Only pesticide free and non GMO vegetables will grace your plate.

Kangaroo Fillet Salad $27

Savour tender kangaroo fillet on a bed of mixed greens.  Let the server know how you prefer your roo.  It is available rare, medium rare, medium and well done.  Our kangaroo is not gamey.  If you’ve never had kangaroo, give it a try.  We promise that you’ll enjoy it.  The taste can be described as a cross between venison and buffalo.  It’s a lean red meat that is marinated for 48 hours.  The result is a smooth tasting piece of meat that literally melts in your mouth.  We top is with caramelized fig and feta cheese.

Grilled Salmon Fillet $27

Two hundred grams of wild salmon is placed on a warm plate and served with sautéed Bok Choy and pickled veggies.  We tapped into South East Asian cultural influences to bring you a dish that is both satiating and light.  You won’t be hungry in two hours.  The salmon is cooked in low sodium soy sauce and plum wine.  It is lightly seared to perfection.  The grilled salmon fillet is tender, juicy and served at the perfect temperature.  The Bok Choy is pan fried until a light crisp and caramelisation is revealed.  When you bite into it, you’ll notice that there is a light crunch with a distinctive flavour.

Mushroom Risotto $16 and Beef Lasagne $15

Vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters cannot resist our Roasted Red Capsicum & Mushroom Risotto.  Red capsicum is roasted to perfection.  Fresh risotto is boiled in vegetable both.  Green leaves of rosemary, thyme, basil and sage is added for a cacophony of flavour.  Organic mushrooms are sliced and lightly sautéed in garlic butter with rosemary fresh from our garden.  You won’t believe your eyes.  The result is a dish that is as visually pleasing as it is appetising.  Our homemade beef lasagne is made fresh daily.  The pasta is fresh and the beef is sourced from local farmers.  We make our own tomato sauce, chock full of garden grown herbs and spices.
